37-year-old  Francisco Javier Chavez-Martinez from Russellville died Sunday afternoon in Cedar Creek.   WHNT News 19 has been told that Martinez was in a kayak with a trolling motor.   He somehow ended up in the water and drowned.

The drowning happened on County Road 49 near the Britton Bridge.  That is between Russellville and Red Bay.

The Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver says witnesses saw 37-year-old Francisco Javier Chavez-Martinez of Russellville swimming for shore and go under around 12:30 Sunday afternoon.  They searched for him in vain.

Oliver says, "[Witnesses] stayed in the area until the rescue and the divers got there.  we searched the area.  They did a sonar and located him probably in about twelve, fifteen feet of water, and they dove down and recovered the body."

The sheriff adds they don't have many problems in the area.

"It's a pretty busy area," says Oliver.  "There's a boat ramp there.  There's a lot of fisherman putting in.  It's particularly busy, but nothing has been that dangerous about it."

Multiple rescue crews searched the area.  They recovered the body around three this afternoon.
