Apartment Fire in Downtown Huntsville; 20 People Evacuated

Huntsville Fire & Rescue worked 2 1/2 hours Friday to put out an apartment fire on Lincoln Street.  The fire started around 3:30 a.m. at Lincoln Square Apartments, which is between Holmes Avenue & Clinton Avenue.

A resident’s apartment filled with smoke, and that is when 911 was called.  When Huntsville Fire & Rescue arrived, crews saw flames shooting through the roof.  A total of 7 fire trucks were called to the scene.

WHNT News 19 This Morning reporter Jeff Gray counted 20 people who were evacuated.  HEMSI assisted those affected by providing blankets.  Temperatures were in the mid 30s at the time.

One apartment that was under renovation was destroyed.  Two others have heavy water damage.

Residents in unaffected parts of of the complex will be allowed back in today.
