    Madison Police Charge Man With Sexual Abuse

    MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – Madison Police have charged a man with sexual abuse. Michael Ray Effinger, 43, was arrested Thursday and booked in the Madison County Metro Jail. He has posted his $15,000 bond. Police say the investigation started after the victim, a female juvenile, talked with authorities. Police did not release further details, saying the investigation is still ongoing.

    She’s a pint-sized conductor. A child in Russia is getting worldwide attention for what she does in church. A video posted to YouTube says the little girl’s name is Lara.  We think she has a music career in her future! Watch the video above.

  • Athens Celebrates Mardi Gras With ‘Steampunk’ Parade

    ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – Athens celebrated Mardi Gras on Tuesday with a parade. Athens State University presents the parade, and art professor Gail Bergeron and students were in charge of the colorful event. This year’s theme was ‘Steampunk Circus.’ As part of a class requirement, each student had to make an oversized head made of paper mache and wire to wear in the parade.  They came up with some neat creations!

    Caught on Video: Snake Eats Crocodile

    Guess he was hungry!  After a five-hour showdown, a 10-foot snake (believed to be a python) defeated a crocodile in Queensland, Australia. Tiffany Corlis caught the entire event on camera. Corlis was at Lake Moondarra on Sunday when she started filming. “It was just unbelievable,” Corlis told ABC Australia. “We were sort of thinking the snake had bitten off a little more than it could chew, pardon the pun, but it did actually eat the crocodile.” Read more: ABC Australia

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Drivers have fought the bottleneck for years, demanding improvements to widen Old Madison Pike between Slaughter Road and Cummings Research Park.     Wish to Ride a Unicorn Over the Rainbow Granted for 1st Grader with Cancer

    PARK HILLS, MO – A Missouri first grader got her wish to ride over a rainbow on a unicorn in front of her entire school last week. Summer Warren is 7, and has an inoperable cancer wrapped around her brain stem.     GREAT VIDEO: One-Armed Student Sinks Half-Court Shot

    ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – This is cool – a one-armed student at Saint Louis University High School sunk a half court shot during a recent game to win $100. The best part, he donated the money to breast cancer research. Max Bredenkoetter made the shot on February 21 during the “Paint It Pink” game.  He won the hearts of the crowd for certain. Check out the announcer’s pink suit too.  Pretty cool!

    UPDATE: Missing Section Woman in DeKalb County Jail

    SECTION, Ala. (WHNT) – It turns out a Section woman isn’t missing after all.  Linda Sherea Justice is actually in a nearby jail. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported Justice missing earlier Tuesday morning.  She hadn’t been seen for a few days.
