    Officer-involved wreck shuts down Huntsville road for several hours

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Huntsville police officer was involved in a wreck that shut down two major roads for several hours early Saturday morning. The officer was taken to Huntsville Hospital after police say a drunk driver hit his cruiser. The accident impacted Jordan Lane and Mastin Lake Road while police investigated the scene.   • 2 Tennessee Valley High Schools compete in National Cyber Defense Competition

    TENNESSEE VALLEY, Ala. (WHNT) -Two teams of students, one from New Century and the other from Grissom High School competed in Washington, DC in a National Cyber Defense Competition. The team from Grissom High School were named the winners of the Leidos Digital Forensics Award, coming out on top of eleven other teams.     One dead following an early morning wreck in Decatur

    DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) –  The Decatur Police Department, Decatur Fire and Rescue, and Decatur EMS resounded to an early morning single vehicle wreck. The accident happened on Point Mallard Parkway at the intersection of The Crossing shopping center.     ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – An early morning car collision with a train leaves a railroad crossing unsafe. Crews from CSX  are working to physically flag the crossing at McClellan Street in Athens after a signal post was knocked over. The crossing must be manually flagged until the signal post can be repaired.     Road conditions clear in some areas, but slick in others

    TENNESSEE VALLEY (WHNT) – If you’re about to drive to work or school this morning, the roads are in good shape in some places but not others. They’re icy in southern middle Tennessee, including Fayetteville.     One church in Athens opens its doors as a community warming center

    ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT)- A church in Athens is lending a helping hand. Central Church of Christ opened their gym  doors as a community warming center. Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson says about 40 stranded motorist utilized the open gym doors at the church. One stranded motorist from Nashville happened to be a musician and showed his gratitude by playing a song for everyone.
