Edward Egros is a Sports Anchor/Reporter for WHNT News 19. Edward moved to Huntsville in June of 2010, and has thoroughly enjoyed the Tennessee Valley ever since. As a native of south Louisiana, Edward has lived and breathed SEC Football ever since he was born.

After graduating from high school, Edward continued his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. There, he not only earned a degree in Journalism, he was a sports anchor for the SMU news program, "The Daily Update", a host for a sports talk show on SMU radio called "The Sports Experience" and a hockey play-by-play announcer for two Junior League hockey teams. He was also a sports intern with KXAS in Ft. Worth, TX.

All of this experience helped Edward earn his first job after college with KTSM in El Paso, TX. As a sports reporter, Edward covered many big events, including Sun Bowls, New Mexico State basketball's run to the NCAA Tournament and legendary boxer Evander Holyfield's attempt at a fifth Heavyweight Championship. He also co-anchored "NC9 Overtime", a Friday night high school football show and "Sports Extra", a Sunday night football wrap-up show.

Edward then left the Borderland to accept a sports reporting position with WPSD in Paducah, KY. He covered many high school state championships and college sporting events, including football and basketball games at Murray State, Southern Illinois and Tennessee-Martin. In 2009, he earned Kentucky Associated Press Awards for Best Sports Feature and an Honorable Mention for Best Sportscaster.

When not covering sports, Edward enjoys the finer things in life: good food, good books and good times. He also enjoys pumping iron, hitting golf balls into water hazards and meeting as many new people as possible. So if you have a good sports story idea or want to discuss next year's Iron Bowl, feel free to drop Edward a line at edward.egros@whnt.com.

  • Troy Football Wants To Play Alabama And/Or Auburn

Huntsville, Ala. (WHNT) – When Auburn hosted Alabama A&M last season, it was just second time since 1997 the Tigers played an in-state opponent not named Alabama. Both the Tide and Tigers have historically avoided the likes of Jacksonville State, UAB and Troy.  But Trojan head coach Larry Blakeney wants to change that trend. He was in the Rocket City for the Troy Trojan Tour.  He’s been with the program for more than two decades but has yet to face […]

  • Josh Magette Prepares For Second Year In The Pros

Huntsville, Ala. (WHNT) – Josh Magette remains one of the more successful Chargers UAH has ever produced.  Even though he spent last season as an European professional in Holland, once a Charger, always a Charger. He watched his former team lose a heartbreaker in the NCAA Tournament. “I just hate it for Jaime, Zane and X for their careers to end like that, on a bad call, or any iffy call like that,” said Josh Magette, former UAH guard. He […]

  • Hammers Look Ahead To The Playoffs

Huntsville, Ala. (WHNT) – Going into the playoffs, the Alabama Hammers may be playing as well as anybody in the league. They boast the top scoring offense, the best scoring defense and the second-best turnover margin in the PIFL.  It’s just having accomplished athletes, the Hammers say everyone comes prepared for every game. “We’re clicking on all cylinders, we’re on the same page, you hear that said by a lot of quarterbacks in the NFL and stuff but I think […]

  • Stars Fall As Suns Win In Rout

Jacksonville, Fla. – The runs came early and often in The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville for Sunday’s game between the Huntsville Stars and the Jacksonville Suns. Unfortunately for the Stars, the runs were for the Suns. Using a six run third inning, Jacksonville cruised to an 11-2 win, dropping Huntsville further into a hole to start the second half.
