Edward Egros is a Sports Anchor/Reporter for WHNT News 19. Edward moved to Huntsville in June of 2010, and has thoroughly enjoyed the Tennessee Valley ever since. As a native of south Louisiana, Edward has lived and breathed SEC Football ever since he was born.
After graduating from high school, Edward continued his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. There, he not only earned a degree in Journalism, he was a sports anchor for the SMU news program, “The Daily Update”, a host for a sports talk show on SMU radio called “The Sports Experience” and a hockey play-by-play announcer for two Junior League hockey teams. He was also a sports intern with KXAS in Ft. Worth, TX.
All of this experience helped Edward earn his first job after college with KTSM in El Paso, TX. As a sports reporter, Edward covered many big events, including Sun Bowls, New Mexico State basketball’s run to the NCAA Tournament and legendary boxer Evander Holyfield’s attempt at a fifth Heavyweight Championship. He also co-anchored “NC9 Overtime”, a Friday night high school football show and “Sports Extra”, a Sunday night football wrap-up show.
Edward then left the Borderland to accept a sports reporting position with WPSD in Paducah, KY. He covered many high school state championships and college sporting events, including football and basketball games at Murray State, Southern Illinois and Tennessee-Martin. In 2009, he earned Kentucky Associated Press Awards for Best Sports Feature and an Honorable Mention for Best Sportscaster.
When not covering sports, Edward enjoys the finer things in life: good food, good books and good times. He also enjoys pumping iron, hitting golf balls into water hazards and meeting as many new people as possible. So if you have a good sports story idea or want to discuss next year’s Iron Bowl, feel free to drop Edward a line at edward.egros@whnt.com.
