Denise Vickers joined the WHNT NEWS 19 team as News Director in August 2006. "I am thrilled and honored to work with the dedicated professionals of WHNT NEWS 19," she said. "This team is made up of hard-working journalists whom I respect," she added. "I feel fortunate to have reporters, anchors, photojournalists and a management team who have been covering the Tennessee Valley for decades. That local knowledge and perspective is invaluable."

Denise has called Alabama home since 2004. Prior to moving to the Tennessee Valley, Denise worked as News Director at WSFA-TV in the capital city, Montgomery. She has been a News Director since 1998 at stations in Boise, Idaho, and Charleston, South Carolina. Prior to becoming a News Director, Denise was a newscast producer. Her television "tour of duty" has included stations in Lynchburg, Virginia; the Washington, DC area; and cities in South Carolina. She was born in Delaware and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

As News Director, Denise is committed to serving WHNT NEWS 19's customers - you the viewer - in a variety of ways! "We want to provide the best news, weather, sports and information through a variety of multimedia platforms - not just traditional on-air coverage on WHNT News 19. I am focused on making sure that viewers get the information they need and want on-air, on WHNT.com, on mobile devices through our apps, on our social media sites and WHNT NEWS 19's digital channel 19.2," Vickers said. She invites you to let us know how we can improve any of those services for you.

"When we say we're 'Taking Action and Getting Results,' we mean it," Vickers said. Denise explains that it's not a slogan, it's a promise to stand up for the viewers of the Tennessee Valley. Whether it's fixing dangerous roads, holding lawmakers and people in powerful positions accountable, helping people get their money back when con artists rip them off or protecting people by informing them of severe weather threats, WHNT NEWS19 is dedicated to going beyond just providing news and information. 'Taking Action, Getting Results' means giving a voice to the voiceless, asking the tough questions and getting answers for the public when they can't.

In January 2008, General Manager, Stan Pylant, added the title of Station Manager to Denise's duties as News Director. "We are at a time in our industry that requires leaders with a strong vision and the talent to move the organization forward. Denise is an innovator and her appointment means WHNT will continue to be at the forefront in providing news and information in this new media age," Pylant said when making the announcement.

Denise is a graduate of Leadership Huntsville-Madison County's flagship program (Class 25). She strongly believes in servant leadership and as such proudly serves on the boards of directors for three local, non-profit organizations (Women's Business Center of North Alabama, Sci-Quest, and Still Serving Veterans).

Denise and her husband, Mark, live in the Hurricane Valley area of Madison County (near New Market). She enjoys the peacefulness of country life. They have more than a dozen free-ranging chickens and three dogs. Denise thoroughly enjoys the Tennessee Valley - the people, the places and the playtime activities this area offers. When not working, Denise enjoys mountain biking at Monte Sano State Park, playing softball at the Metro Kiwanis SportsPlex, kayaking with friends from the Huntsville Canoe Club and taking pictures of the spectacular natural beauty that surrounds the Tennessee Valley. She also enjoys frequenting the local restaurants & shops and enjoys the visual and performing arts in the Tennessee Valley.

"As the Tennessee Valley grows, I want to make sure the news and information services we provide, reflect what the consumers want. Please feel free to let me know how we can do a better job for you. We also accept compliments when you find we're doing things well," she said. Email Denise at denise.vickers@whnt.com.
