    UNA Police Investigating Armed Robbery on Campus

    An armed robber forced a victim into a car, then drive to an ATM and withdraw money, according to a post on the University of North Alabama Police Department’s Facebook page. The description of the robber is vague, but police say he had a black pistol.  Investigators say the robber was last seen leaving the university parking deck. UNA Police ask anyone with information to give them a call.

  • Decatur Man Charged With Possession Of Child Porn

    Decatur Police officers checking up on registered sex offenders Monday arrest a man at his Clearview Street home.  Police say Melvin Don Tucker had in his possession obscene material showing children under 17 years old engaged in sexual acts. Tucker is being held under a $250,000 bond.

  • Two Die In Crash On Highway 231 In Arab

    Two people have died in a wreck in Arab. It happened at 7:45 on Highway 231 near Ragstone Drive. Crews on the scene tell WHNT News 19 that a Ford Mustang and another vehicle were racing northbound on 231 when a Toyota Corolla traveling southbound in a northbound lane collided head-on with the Mustang. Authorities say the other car kept going.     Much of the Tennessee Valley has been under a severe thunderstorm warning Thursday night.  The Saturn V Rocket Cam captured several lightning strikes. The rain caused flash flooding in some areas.  Madison Police warned drivers to avoid Madison Boulevard at Jetplex Circle because more than six inches of water is covering the road, but by 8:10 pm said all the water was gone.     Update:  Verizon now tells WHNT News 19 that service was restored at 7:35 Central time Wednesday evening.  Verizon customers in North Alabama have called, emailed and asked on the WHNT News 19 Facebook page about service problems.  A spokesperson sent WHNT News 19 this statement: “Our network engineers continue to work on restoring voice and data service in parts of Central and North Alabama.  Significant progress has been made, and most customers should notice improvements in service.  We will continue […]
