‘Armed and dangerous’ man who escaped the Lauderdale Detention Center twice back in custody
LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. -The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office says Christopher Kilpatrick is in police custody in Tennessee. He’s the man police say escaped the detention center for the second time on Saturday.
Authorities first learned of his escape when Kilpatrick’s parents called. They told police he stopped at their home Saturday night.
Chief Deputy Richard Richey, with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, says Kilpatrick was trying to run from police in Macon County, Tennesse when he crashed the vehicle he was driving into another vehicle. The person driving the other vehicle is now in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
Authorities are still trying to figure out exactly what charges Kilpatrick will face in this case, because of the wreck.
Investigators believe he was on his way to the Gatlinburg area at the time of his arrest.
Richey says overcrowding and an old jail facility are to blame for the escape.
