DECATUR, Ala. - A sporting goods store has made 30 deserving students very happy this holiday season. Academy Sports and Outdoors donated bicycles and helmets to students from Austinville Elementary School in Decatur and Martin Luther King Elementary School in Huntsville.

It was the 15th year for the store to give away bikes to deserving students.  Patricia Black, logistics manager with Academy Sports, said their goal was simple; "It's a great way to give the kids something kind of incorporated into the lifestyle that we want to give kids -- getting outdoors, doing outdoor activities."

"We asked the teachers to give us names of leaders, good behavior in the classroom, showing good character, just anything that they could think of that the students have done to show leadership," said Darrell Allbright, a physical education teacher.

Each student received the same brand, model and color bike.

"It's amazing," said Allbright. "Because a lot of these kids, they may not be able to afford something like this, especially at Christmas time."
