Man found dead of gunshot wound following search for hit and run driver

KILLEN, Ala.–Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton confirms a suspect in a hit and run accident in Killen was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  This happened on County Road 428 Thursday evening.

Killen police officers were searching for a suspect in the hit and run wreck when they found the vehicle matching the description.  They then heard a gunshot nearby, uncertain if it was directed at them.  The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office was called in to assist.

Around 6 p.m. law enforcement officers found the suspect dead of a single gunshot wound near a barn that was behind a home.  The person’s identity has not been released pending notification of family.
