HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- When you think of the ideal holiday back drop, don't you think of a whimsical, quaint downtown square with pretty lights and soft Christmas music, while walking arm and arm with your loved ones and friends, and the entire town is covered by a blanket of snow?
Well, we can't help you with the snow. BUT we can give you just about everything else, and more!
Tonight Downtown Huntsville Inc. is transforming the downtown square with "Dickens on the Square" for the first year ever. They've partnered with Commerce Kitchen, Harrison Brothers Hardware, and Fantasy Playhouse Children's Theatre to give the public a free event, all in the spirit of spending time with friends and family.
Commerce Kitchen will be serving free hot cocoa and s'mores on the square, Harrison Brothers Hardware will be staying open until 8 p.m., and at 5:30 p.m. carolers from "A Christmas Carol" will be singing.
And if you're age 21 and above, Commerce Kitchen will also be offering special Dickens-themed alcoholic beverages, like hot, spiked apple cider and their holiday Frosted Cranberry cocktail. You can enjoy these drinks inside or pour them in a purple cup and walk outside to enjoy the rest of the square's festivities.
The historic bank building on the westside of the square will be lit up especially for this occasion, and of course, the Tinsel Train in Big Spring Park will still be glowing!
It will be cold outside -- so bundle up, wear scarves and mittens, bring a sweetie or your friends, and celebrate Christmas downtown!
