Toddler struck by vehicle at McDonnell Elementary

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – HEMSI officials say an eighteen month old child was hurt this afternoon when struck by a vehicle at McDonnell Elementary School. Huntsville Police say the child’s injuries were very minor.

Keith Ward with Huntsville City Schools says that a father and child were walking in the parking lot area of the school, and the father bent down to tie the child’s shoelaces.

A car backing up didn’t see them in the rearview and struck them at a slow speed.

HEMSI Chief Operating Officer Don Webster says that the child received minor and non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Huntsville Hospital out of an abundance of caution.

Huntsville police say there are no charges being filed against anyone.
