MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. – Two Douglas High School students were involved in a single-vehicle wreck Wednesday night, and one of them died.

Alabama State Troopers say two males, ages 15 and 16, were traveling on Whitesville Drive four miles west of Boaz.  At 8:45 p.m., the 16-year-old driver veered off the roadway and struck a tree.

The 15-year-old passenger was rushed to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, where he died.

The 16-year-old driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Troopers say that preliminary findings indicates speed was a factor.  They continue to investigate.

Counselors were present at Douglas High School on Thursday to talk with students.

Troopers are not releasing the names of either teen.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Earlier, troopers released information stating a male and female were involved in the wreck. They have since clarified that both were male.
