A single-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon takes the life of a Jackson County woman

JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. — A single-vehicle wreck claimed the life of a woman from Section Monday afternoon.

According to ALEA, Barbara J. Smith, 58, was killed when the 2000 Oldsmobile she was driving left the roadway and struck a fence before overturning. Smith, who was not using a seat belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at 11 a.m. on Jackson County 43, four miles south of Section.

Although the circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, the preliminary investigation indicates speed was a factor in the crash.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
