DECATUR, Ala. – Decatur Police confirm one person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon.  According to Sgt. Mike Cowart, the crash happened between 12 and 12:30 p.m. near Apple Lane Farms on Alabama 20.

Morgan County Central Dispatch received a call of a two vehicle crash with injury on Highway 20 near Bibb Garrett Rd.  Officers with the Decatur Police Traffic Unit, along with Decatur Fire and First Response EMS immediately responded to the scene.

When officers arrived to the scene, a red 2008 GMC Sierra  and a white 2016 Ford Super Duty pickup driven by Jeremy Luke Pierce, 36, of Maylene Alabama had been involved in a head on collision.

Investigators tell WHNT News 19 Pierce was transported by First Response Ambulance to the Decatur-Morgan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC Sierra was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.

The road re-opened around 3:15 p.m. Monday afternoon.

At this time, it appears that the GMC Sierra was travelling eastbound on Hwy 20 when it left the roadway and entered the center ditch between east and westbound traffic.  The vehicle continued eastbound and entered the inside westbound lane where it struck Pierce’s vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
