Robocalls from Google?…Not Really
Here is a different twist to an old phishing scam. Instead of an email or text, businesses owners and individuals who have websites and own one or more domain names are receiving Robocalls from scammers claiming to be from Google. The claim is that their domain registration information needs to be updated. The caller will happily assist you with this update, if you supply your Google password or other personal or business information. Doing so will put you at risk for personal or corporate identity theft.
Google specifically states in its Support pages that, if a consumer ever receives a recorded message from someone claiming to represent Google, it’s a scam. Google also states that there is no fee for Google My Business or Google Search and that they will not offer to increase your search ranking. All of these angles are a scam.
Best Practice: Purchase all of your domain names from one reputable provider. With one provider, you can keep better track of domain registration information and when your domains need to be renewed.
