ATHENS, Ala. – Athens police are investigating an incident involving a stabbing and a shooting that occurred Monday morning.

Police received a call that a person had been cut on Acorn Hill Circle around 10:30 A.M.  When officers arrived they were informed that a second victim had been taken to Athens Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Police located the stabbing victim in Athens Hospital where he was treated for a minor puncture wound to the chest and later released.

Authorities say the shooting victim was flown to Huntsville Hospital by MedFlight.

Investigators believe that the stabbing victim was outside on the phone arguing with his girlfriend.

Authorities say that the gunshot victim was inside of his residence at this time, but was bothered by the volume of the phone conversation.

At this time it is believed that the two parties got into an argument and were yelling through the walls at each other.

Police say they believe the gunshot victim exited his residence and the argument continued.  The stabbing victim entered his residence and shortly after the gunshot victim broke the window of the storm door and forcefully entered the residence.

Police say that he had a knife and threatened to stab the other party.

Authorities say that the first victim received a minor cut to the chest and the second victim was shot twice in the chest area with a handgun.

Investigators have asked the District Attorney to review the case to decide whether or not to place it before a grand jury.

As of this time, no arrests have been made and the incident is under investigation.
