HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – As we honor our veterans tomorrow and this weekend, you’ll see a big symbol of gratitude downtown. On Thursday, Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong unfurled a 20′ x 38’ flag from the north rooftop of the Madison County Courthouse in honor of Veterans Day.

The flag faces the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial and will be displayed through the Veterans Day holiday weekend until Monday, November 14th.

“Madison County is proud to pay tribute to our local veterans, and we value their commitment and sacrifice to preserving our freedom,” said Chairman Strong. “This flag is flown in honor and respect of all our Madison County veterans.”

Madison County enjoys a long history in honoring and celebrating our local veterans. Most recently – in partnership with the Madison County Military Heritage Commission – Madison County unveiled the newly refurbished Hall of Heroes display in the Madison County Courthouse. The Hall of Heroes was established in 1975 to recognize Madison County veterans for valor in combat.

Also in support of our local veterans, the Madison County Courthouse will host Boots on the Square beginning on Friday evening through Sunday. This first-time event will display the shoes and stories of service by local veterans around the porch of the Courthouse.
