ATHENS, Ala. – Athens police are asking for help in identifying a man wanted in connection to a robbery near a Chevron on Hwy 31 on Wednesday.

Officers received a call around 1:13 p.m. saying someone was claiming to have been robbed down the road from the gas station.

The victim claims that a white man offered to give him a ride to the grocery store to buy food and other items.

Authorities say the victim claims to have accepted the offer and after a short drive down the road, the driver pulled a gun and ordered the victim to hand over all of his money.

The victim was not harmed and was ordered out of the vehicle after the driver pulled over.

Authorities say the victim returned to the gas station where he made the call to the police.

Police are searching for a possible 2002 white Honda Civic 2-door coupe with a spoiler on the back.

Police say they are looking for a white male who walks with a limp, last seen wearing a black Alabama hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants and flip flops.

If anyone has any information about this person contact Sergeant Johnny Campbell with the Athens Police at 256-233-8700.
