HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Thanksgiving and Christmas mean two things...lots of food and lots of family time! A non-profit in Huntsville believes everyone should have those two things this holiday season.
Manna House believes it's not just the food...it's the family, the love and the giving.
"As you go into the holidays there are always more people who can't afford that food and so they come to us just looking for the sides to go with their meal and not always do they need the meat, they just need the sides because they want to have a good Thanksgiving as well," Director of Manna House, Fran Fluhler.
The fall food drive started with one local business helping another.
"Andrew from Rainbow International contacted us and said 'Hey, Mr. Electric and Ground Guys all want to come in and we want to help as a team, all of our companies, and jump in and make a difference in the community,'" said Fluhler.
Since the doors of Manna House opened from Fluhler's garage nearly ten years ago, her purpose keeps driving her to meet what she originally thought was a simple need.
"I really believe that the Lord called us to help families in a crisis time," said Fluhler. "Not everybody has a family that can respond to that crisis, but we as a community can come and cover our neighbor and we can make a difference and then when they get restored, and life is good, they can help come cover another neighbor."
For families needing assistance, Manna House will open their doors to help with Thanksgiving meals on Saturday, November 19th from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Monday, November 21st and Wednesday, November 23rd from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
