HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The holiday season can be stressful. Especially when it comes to the cost of making a meal for your family.
The Downtown Rescue Mission in Huntsville is trying to alleviate some of that stress, by providing turkey boxes.
"To see the difference of just giving people a turkey, and watch that stress just leave their faces, to know they don't have to worry is such a blessing," said Tonia Beverly with the Rescue Mission.
It's a blessing for not only Tonia, but 800 families in the Huntsville area.
"The turkey boxes that we give out to the community are for the working poor, people that have to choose between power and groceries," said Beverly.
From green beans to macaroni and cheese, the boxes are full of many Thanksgiving favorites.
Beverley wants to remind you that going to the mission to get on the list is not something to be ashamed of.
"We all need help at some point or another. everybody needs either encouragement or just a little help to get by, and that's what we're here for," she said.
If you don't have a family to feed, you're still welcome. The Rescue Mission is holding a Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday and Thursday
The also need about 800 frozen turkeys. If you have the means to donate a 10 to 12 pound turkey, it could really make a difference.
"We are here to spread God's love," said Beverly.
You can register for a turkey box on Monday and Tuesday of next week. It will be at Downtown Rescue Mission at 1400 Evangel Drive NW.
Registration is from 9 to 11 in the morning. If you can't make it in the morning, don't worry, you can sign up in the afternoon between 1 and 3.
The boxes will be distributed on November 21 and 22.
