FLORENCE, Ala. (al.com) - The University of North Alabama football team was granted a waiver by the NCAA on Wednesday that will allow the Lions to be considered for the Division II football playoffs, despite not meeting the minimum requirement of 10 regular-season contests.
UNA's scheduled game on October 8 in Melbourne, Fla., against Florida Tech was cancelled due to Hurricane Matthewand left the Lions with just nine regular-season games.
The game will not be made up, giving the team a deficit number of games.
North Athletic Director Mark Linder received notice from Donnie Wagner, associate director of championships and alliances with the NCAA, that the waiver would be given.
