DECATUR, Ala. (AP) – A man is in jail for identity theft after police found he had identification documents that did not belong to him.

A complaint Friday of two people soliciting money at Walmart led police to an investigation.

Police said one of them, later identified as Levi Joseph Herr, gave an officer a Georgia identification card belonging to someone else.

Police arrested Herr on a charge of giving a false name to a law enforcement officer and transported him for Decatur City Jail for booking.

Later on Saturday investigators discovered Herr had obtained identification documents in the victim’s name, without authorization or consent.

Herr was also charged with identity theft. He will later be transferred to the Morgan County Jail once his bond is set.
