BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ A Birmingham man has been accused of killing his ex-wife whose body was found earlier this week in her burning car.

News outlets report that 38-year-old Demetrius Wilbert was formally charged Wednesday with murder in the death of 31-year-old Nicole Monique Wallace.

Wilbert had been in custody since authorities found Wallace’s body in her torched red Camaro behind a vacant home in Wylam on Monday afternoon. Authorities say the victim was killed inside her nearby home.

Wallace and Wilbert married in 2011, but Wallace filed for divorce in March. Court records show the divorce was finalized on Sept. 14.

The couple shared a 4-year-old son, and Wallace also had a young teen daughter.

It is unclear whether Wilbert has an attorney.
