Lincoln County math teacher humbled by student achievements: “I don’t do this to win prizes”

LINCOLN COUNTY, Tenn. - Getting the best out of her students and expecting the same from herself. Let us introduce you to Tacsha Osgood, who teaches fourth grade math at Highland Rim School in Fayetteville.

Principal Garth Garris said Osgood strives to get the best out of her students. "She doesn't take okay. Okay is not acceptable to her," Garris said.

"She believes they all can continue to grow and get better. She loves the students -- that's her number one priority when she walks into the door each and every day."

When we surprised Miss Osgood with the money, she expressed she doesn't do this to win prizes.

"I am humbled by that," said Osgood.  "I try hard, I work hard and I ask my children to work as hard as I do. No more, no less, but just as hard as I do."

She said one student in particular, Logan,  has come a long way.  It was an emotional moment for Miss Osgood.

"Logan brought tears to my eyes because he told me probably the first or second week of school he told me he wasn't good at math."

But Miss Osgood took care of that.

"We are in our eighth week of school and I can see a big change in him already and that's why I teach. He has turned into a student leader in his group. He asks questions and coming out of shell and I think it's fabulous," Miss Osgood said cheerfully.

The math teacher was so proud of Logan's improvement.  "Bless you, Logan. You make me cry on a Wednesday. That's why I do this every day. Come in and give my 100% and expect my children to do the same."

Miss Osgood doesn't teach for the recognition.

"I am very humbled by it. I don't do this to win prizes of course," she added.

You deserve it, though! Congratulations, Miss Tascha Osgood for winning this week's Tools For Teachers Award!
