HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Driving in construction zones is something most people in the Huntsville area is used to. The streets are decorated with cones and street signs telling you where you can or can't turn; especially near Memorial Parkway.
But according to Huntsville police, the construction zones haven't impacted their response times. "The way our patrols are set up we have a lot of officers that work in the south, north, and east of the area. So getting to that area and around the general area isn't a problem," Lt. Stacy Bates.
Friday afternoon, a three vehicle crash led to traffic being backed up for miles on South Memorial Parkway. Some how a car ended underneath a truck, and a another small car had a cracked windshield.
But even with traffic piled up for miles, law enforcement was able to get through. Lt. Stacy Bates said it's always a great reminder that drivers remember to move over for first responders.
"If you're in a congested area, try to get over to the right side of the road, as soon as possible. But remember to do it safely, so first responders can pass," Lt. Bates said.
