Death investigation in Toney underway after a body was found in a mobile home fire

TONEY, Ala.–  A house fire in Madison County ended with a grim discovery for firefighters, and tragic news for one person’s family. After getting the blaze under control, firefighters discovered a body in the mobile home on Carter Grove road in Toney.  Although investigators aren’t yet ready to say whether the victim died in the fire.

Capt. Michael Salamonsky, with the Madison County Sheriff’s office, said the Bobo fire department responded to the fire Friday morning. An arson investigator and crime scene unit are working the case.

“They’ll try to figure out how the fire started, you know the origin of it, how it started, why the person became deceased, normal what I’m gonna say is death investigation, that’s what’s gonna take place from now,” he said

The Madison County Coroner’s Office identified the man killed as 51-year-old Danny Ray Smith. Officials say at this time there are no preliminary indications to suggest foul play. An autopsy will be done on Monday.
