"We sometimes stress education, but if you got a kid that's coming to school and the only reason that they're really there is to eat how much are they going to really learn," says the Michael Wilborn, the principal of Hollywood School.

They are collecting food items that kids can prepare on their own without parents, like microwavable macaroni and cheese and snack muffins.

"It really needs to be things that children can do by themselves, because a lot of them don't have a parent at home. Some parents may work and they need to be able to make this food for themselves or their siblings," says Amy Pierce, the owner of The Beach Bungalow in Scottsboro.

They are also collecting items for Backpack Buddies and challenge the community to get involved. "Every time you go to Walmart, just pick up five dollars or ten dollars extra in groceries and bring it to these drop off spots," says Pierce.

"It's a wonderful opportunity and what better way to help your community than to help the children that's going to one day be apart of it and make the decisions of this community"The Beach

Bungalow says it's vital for businesses to reach out and give back to those who will one day be the face of that community.
