Corley Elementary School librarian wins Tools For Teachers award

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. - Our second Tools For Teachers award of the 2016-17 school year takes us to Boaz and Corley Elementary.

When you think of a librarian, books come to mind. To the people at Corley Elementary School in Boaz, Jodi Eckhoff is so much more.

Allison Haygood, the school’s principal, says Eckhoff is involved in several projects.

“She is on our budget committee. She helps with our sunshine committee. She also played a key role in our fall festival last year.” That’s not all. “She started the lending library.” The lending library is a place where students can check out books year around.

Students affectionately call her Mrs. ‘E’. She is one busy lady.

Fellow teacher Chelsey Barker nominated ‘Mrs. E’ for the WHNT News 19 Tools For Teachers Award.

“She does more for those kids than any librarian I have ever encountered,” says Barker. “Everyone comes before her. She is wonderful.”

Mrs. E had no idea we were coming. “I am very flattered,” said Mrs. E tearfully. “They think that much of me to nominate me. Means the world. That’s very special.”

So what does Mrs. E plan to do with her newfound finances? “Books for the kids.  Some special ones just for them. We are going to keep them in the library. They read them during class, it will be great!”

Just being around Mrs. E, we could tell the kids really appreciate and love her dearly. She also enjoys interacting with them every day.

This isn’t the first award Mrs. E received. She also won the teacher of the year for Corley Elementary. Congratulations!
