Coroner identifies man killed in weekend Madison County wreck

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. – The Madison County Coroner’s office says it has identified the man killed in a single-vehicle wreck from over the weekend. It happened Sunday night at 7:55 on Highway 72 East near Gurley.

Deputy Coroner Tyler Berryhill says Thomas Jerome Swearengin, 34, died in the wreck. Alabama State Troopers report he is from Albertville.

Investigators say the driver was traveling eastbound on Highway 72 East when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and through the westbound lanes. The vehicle left the road then flipped.

Berryhill says Swearengin was pronounced dead at the scene. He also reports the victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
