Officers arrest “armed & dangerous criminal” in Ft. Payne
DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. – A man wanted in Jackson and DeKalb Counties has been arrested. That’s according to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris.
Alton Scott Durham, 39, of Henagar was wanted in both counties for felony warrants. WHNT News 19’s Laura Christmas featured him on our newscast just this week.
He had been on the run for several months. Investigators believed him to to be armed and dangerous. Officers say he has threatened police and has been in a car chase with Jackson County.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a tip on the whereabouts of Durham on Thursday. Officers and deputies with the DeKalb County Deputies and Drug and Major Crime Unit, Fort Payne Police Department and Marshal Services all went to the home on Alabama Avenue in Ft. Payne, which is where they found Durham. They were able to arrest him without incident.
Durham is currently being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center where he remains with a bond of $130,000.
Sheriff Harris says “we have been looking for Durham for a while and we are glad that we got him without incident. Thanks to the Deputies, Investigators, Fort Payne Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Marshal Services for working hard together to make this arrest possible.”
