Jackson and DeKalb County officials looking for a man deputies say is armed and dangerous

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. -- Jackson and DeKalb County officials are looking for a man they say is armed and dangerous, who is accused of shooting into his wife's car and running from deputies.

Alton Scott Durham is wanted on several felony and misdemeanor warrants-- and he's on the run. "We ended up getting in a car chase with him. He ran on foot," said Jackson County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen. "He was armed with several guns at the time. We were unable to locate him."

Deputies believe Durham is armed and dangerous. "He actually got out of the car and after deputies didn't approach him very quickly, which is proper procedure with somebody that might be armed. He went to the car and got an SKS, shotgun, and another long rifle, grabbed them, and took off through the woods," Harnen says.

Deputies say Durham is facing charges for shooting into his wife's car, and that swung this hunt into motion.

Harnen says Durham also stole a truck in Georgia. "For the last month or so he's been making threats that any law enforcement officer who stopped him, he would kill them," Harnen said. "Those are not confirmed, we didn't hear it from him, we heard it from other people, so we're certainly concerned."

Deputies are taking necessary precautions in their search.

Officials warn that if anyone sees Durham, don't approach him. "He apparently has some intent to do some harm to somebody," Harnen said, "I don't know if he would do it to the public, but I would certainly use precautions and not go near him."
