Huntsville Police say shots fired near Highlands Elementary causes short lockdown at school

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Huntsville Police said shots were fired during a domestic incident very close to the Highlands Elementary School parking lot  and caused the school to be temporarily locked down Wednesday afternoon.

Huntsville Police Lt. Stacy Bates said a man and a woman had an argument in the parking lot of the elementary school when one of them fired shots at the other person's car. Bates said the person and the gun were quickly detained by officers and are now in custody.

No one was injured and the school lifted the lockdown shortly after it was issued.
