AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn defensive back Stephen Roberts has been suspended from Saturday’s season opener against Clemson, according to our news partner AL.com. This after his misdemeanor arrest last week.

Head Football Coach Gus Malzahn announce the punishment during his weekly news conference on Tuesday. “We will be playing without Stephen Roberts,” Malzahn said. “Stephen will be suspended for this game. … It will be week-to-week.”

Roberts was arrested during a traffic stop last Wednesday. He faces charges for an unlicensed firearm and attempting to elude an officer. Auburn police say Roberts was a passenger in a vehicle and ran from police at the scene.

Malzahn says Auburn’s team policy is for players to not have firearms, licensed or not.
