ATHENS, Ala. – A student was arrested at the Limestone Career Technical Center Thursday morning.  School authorities say the student was in possession of a handgun.

Karen Tucker, the director of technology and public relations at Limestone County Schools, said a tip about a student with a gun led school officials to search him. They were able to get the gun from him and turn him over to the authorities.

The student was taken to the Limestone County Jail without incident.

“At no point were the students in immediate danger and it was determined that no further action such as a lockdown was necessary,” Tucker said.

No other details were released about the student or about the gun, including if it was loaded or not.
