Decatur Police investigating death of 4-month-old child, no foul play suspected

DECATUR, Ala. – Decatur Police are investigating the death of an infant Wednesday.

Police said it started at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday morning. Decatur Police and Decatur Fire and Rescue responded to an unresponsive 4-month-old child at a residence on 12th Ave NW.

Two officers arrived at the scene and began performing CPR on the child. One officer rode in the ambulance while continuing CPR.

Despite efforts of the officers and medical staff, the child died at Decatur Morgan Hospital, police said.

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn and Sgt George Silvestri of the Violent Crimes Unit arrived and began an investigation. The child’s body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy, as required by state law.

At this time, foul play is not suspected in the death of the child, police said. The autopsy results are still pending.

Police have not released the name of the infant.
