DECATUR, Ala. – A mother is in jail after her newborn test positive for drugs.  Decatur Police say that Sheryl Marie Ryan gave birth to a baby girl on July 23rd at Decatur Morgan Hospital at the Parkway Campus.

Authorities say at the time of the infant’s birth she tested positive for Methamphetamines, Opiates, and THC.

A joint investigation by Morgan County DHR and the Decatur Police Department determined that Ryan had taken Lortabs and Adderall without a prescription and had smoke marijuana during her pregnancy.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Ryan’s arrest on August 19th.  Police say that Ryan turned herself in on August 23rd.

Authorities say Ryan is charged with chemical endangerment of a child and is currently in the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 bond.

It is unknown at this time if the child will suffer any long-term effects or disabilities as a result of the drug exposure.
