It’s August 2nd, which means it is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. With the Tennessee Valley seeing temperatures in the 90s today, it may just be the perfect day to celebrate.

According to nationaldaycalendar.com, the first ice cream sandwich sold for a penny in 1900. The ice cream sandwiched between milk biscuits was sold from a pushcart in New York City. Shortly after that, pushcarts popped up around the city and country selling the portable treat.

The modern version was invented 1945.

Now, alternatives to the classic treat use cookies or even a rice crispy wafer to sandwich the ice cream in between. What is the most unique ice cream sandwich you have ever enjoyed?
