Ardmore, TENN. (WHNT) - Have you ever met someone that just keeps going and going and going? It just seems like their energy and passion for life never stops. Mildred Mitchell is one of those people and WHNT NEW 19 Pays it Forward to her.
"She just gives, gives and gives and we're just so thankful that she's here with us," says Brandon Whitesdie, Ardmore Health & Rehabilitation Administrator.
Mildred Mitchell breathes energy into the halls of Ardmore Health and Rehabilitation in Tennessee. She organizes activities and helps in the garden.
"They go out in the morning to work on the flowers," describes Mitchell. "We've got purple hull peas, regular cucumbers, squash and tomatoes.
Mitchell is a hair stylist too.
"I wash 'em, cut 'em, give 'em perms and put color on their hair just like you would in a shop, you know," explains Mitchell.
Even though the setting is a little different, the beauty shop chats aren't.
"They like to come together," says Mitchell. "Sometimes, I'll have three or four in there sitting down in those extra chairs and they'll congregate at the door to talk."
Whiteside says Mitchell's attitude and service is the same whether they can pay or not.
"If the patient has money, she takes care of them and if they don't have money, she takes care of them," says Whiteside.
Two days a week, Mitchell comes to do hair for the ladies and men too! It's a gesture that makes them feel good. So, WHNT NEWS 19 returned the favor with $319.
"Well, thank you!" says Mitchell. "It will go right back here. We've already got plans."
Sadly, Mitchell lost her granddaughter in a car accident last month. Since she used to come to facility with her often to volunteer, part of the money will be used to make a memorial garden for her. The rest will be used for future parties for the residents in the fall.
