HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - If you've ever wanted a dog, here's your chance! On Thursday, June 30th and Friday, July 1st, Huntsville Animal Services is waiving the pet adoption fee for all adoptions.
The Huntsville Animal Services shelter is full to capacity with dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that are looking for a forever home. Dr. Karen Sheppard says the animals are fully vaccinated, sprayed or neutered and are micro-chipped.
"We typically do them by surprise and usually its because we've gotten really full really fast, that's what happened this week," said Sheppard.
As of noon Thursday afternoon, Huntsville Animal Services did not have any cats left. Although, there are still plenty of dogs available for adoption. "We always have too many but there's times like right now, this morning, we had 162 pets in the building and it's much easier for us to handle half that amount," said Sheppard.
No matter the breed, Dr. Sheppard believes all animals deserve a forever home. "Every pet deserves a home as long as its going to be a safe member of our community. And yeah, some of the pets, most of them, are mixed breeds. So they might not be the pure bred Shih Tzu or Schnauzer but they're lovely, happy, healthy dogs that just want to be a part of your family and same thing with cats, cats want to be a part of your family too," said Sheppard.
In case you missed the event on Thursday, Huntsville Animal Services will continue the waived fee event on Friday, July 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
