UPDATE: Classes canceled for Monday after early morning fire at Auburn’s Lowder Hall
AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn University has alerted its students of a fire on campus. The campus’s official alert system is asking students to avoid the area.
The fire is in Lowder Business hall located on Magnolia Ave. on campus.
The alert asks students to avoid the building as well as War Eagle Way while firefighters are on the scene.
The university says it will update the public as the situation continues.
A reporter with the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Georgia says there were no injuries reported with the fire:
The editor of the student newspaper, The Plainsman, is also on the scene. He says War Eagle Way has reopened, but the building and parking lot remain closed.
According to the university’s Twitter account, classes in that building are canceled for today:
The Toomer’s corner web camera, provided by the City of Auburn, doesn’t show the fire. But Lowder Hall is just a couple blocks down on Magnolia Ave. from this live picture:
WHNT News 19 will monitor the university for the latest information.
