Severe thunderstorm watch posted for Cullman, Franklin & Lawrence Counties

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Cullman, Franklin and Lawrence Counties until 9 p.m. Friday (Image: WHNT News 19)

Portions of north Alabama have been included in a new severe thunderstorm watch, recently issued by the Storm Prediction Center.

The watch includes Cullman, Franklin and Lawrence Counties and is effective through 9 p.m. Friday.

Small hail, gusty winds and lightning will accompany the strongest storms Friday afternoon.

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     ALABAMA
     FLORIDA PANHANDLE
     MISSISSIPPI
     COASTAL WATERS

   * EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 1240 PM UNTIL
     900 PM CDT.

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH LIKELY
     ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE

   SUMMARY...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE AND MERGE
   INTO LINEAR CLUSTERS AS THEY PROGRESS SOUTH-SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE
   REGION THIS AFTERNOON. WIND DAMAGE WILL BE THE MOST COMMON HAZARD
   ALTHOUGH SOME SEVERE HAIL IS POSSIBLE AS WELL.

   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 120
   STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES WEST
   SOUTHWEST OF GREENWOOD MISSISSIPPI TO 35 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF

   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
