Severe thunderstorm watch posted for Cullman, Franklin & Lawrence Counties
Portions of north Alabama have been included in a new severe thunderstorm watch, recently issued by the Storm Prediction Center.
The watch includes Cullman, Franklin and Lawrence Counties and is effective through 9 p.m. Friday.
Small hail, gusty winds and lightning will accompany the strongest storms Friday afternoon.
THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF ALABAMA FLORIDA PANHANDLE MISSISSIPPI COASTAL WATERS * EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 1240 PM UNTIL 900 PM CDT. * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE... SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH LIKELY ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE SUMMARY...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE AND MERGE INTO LINEAR CLUSTERS AS THEY PROGRESS SOUTH-SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE REGION THIS AFTERNOON.
