PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - It won't be long before we head to the polls again. The Alabama Secretary of State's office wants to make sure you have the right plastic in your hand.
Representatives of the office set up at Priceville Town Hall to provide free photo identification to those in need of voter IDs.
It's a year round comprehensive county by county tour. All registered voters can get a free ID. They target places with heavy foot traffic.
"We look for rural areas," said elections intern Trevin Fluker. "Areas where there may not be a DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles)."
The drive is also to share information. Since the law was passed, there seem to be misunderstandings about who needs a voter ID.
"If you have a drivers license or any form of photo identification then you don't need a voter ID, it is a Class C felony if someone has a permissible form of ID and pursues a photo ID," said Fluker.
While you can always get a voter ID at your county's registrar's office, the Secretary of State's office hopes to help get more people to properly exercise their right to vote.
"In times when people feel disadvantaged or they feel underserved by their public officials, the right to exercise your vote is very imperative," said Fluker.
