HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - The new Walmart Supercenter located at 2165 Winchester Road officially opened on Wednesday morning. Madison County resident Bonnie Williams made her way to the front of the line before the grand opening ceremonies began.

"I moved here 19 years ago and that was my first thing, 'how far is it to the Walmart," Williams said. "It was 13 miles."

Shoppers said this is going to be a benefit for their neck of the woods.

"It's going to pull us all together," Williams said. "I think we'll have a lot of people from Gurley that will come in, a lot of people in this area, New Market. I think we'll even pull people from Huntsville that are coming out to the lake and different things."

Community leaders and community members alike said they are grateful for the money the Walmart Supercenter will bring to their area.

"This is revenue generated for Madison County, the City of Huntsville and the City of Madison school systems," District One Commissioner Roger Jones said. "This Walmart opening in northeast Madison County will help all three school systems."

Jones said the crowd who showed up on the first day is encouraging for the people he serves.

Before Walmart's staff cut the ribbon to open the store, they awarded Buckhorn High School, the Food Bank of North Alabama, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama and the March of Dimes.

This new location brought 300 jobs to this area, including full and part-time positions. For those interested in applying for one of the spots, you can apply at a store's hiring kiosk or online at walmartcareers.com.
