HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Runners, both competitive and casual, lined up this Memorial Day morning for the 37th annual Cotton Row Run. The event featured a 10K, 5K, and One-Mile Fun Run/Walk through downtown Huntsville.
Participants of the 10K race lined up at 7 a.m. and quickly made their way around the course. The first runner crossed the finish line just shy of 7:30 a.m.
At 9 a.m., runners took off for the 5K under a blazing hot Alabama sun.
Although LiveAlert19 showed ambient air temperatures in the 80s, infrared scanners indicated that the pavement was as hot as 100 degrees.
Thankfully, event volunteers and Boy Scouts from Troop 351 were on hand to provide water at the finish line.
