Decatur Police: 14-year-old arrested for bringing pistol to school

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) -  A middle schooler is in police custody after bringing a weapon to school, according to police.

Lieutenant Proncey Robertson with Decatur Police tells WHNT News 19 a 14-year-old boy brought a pistol to Oak Park Middle School on Wednesday.

Lt. Robertson says that another student told their parent that a classmate had a gun, that parent alerted the front office.

A school resource officer took the teen in custody. He is now charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

No one was injured or threatened, officials say.

Oak Park principal Wes Black released a statement to parents saying, in part:

"I want to make you aware that within the last 30 minutes our SRO arrested a student with a pistol at school. That information regarding the weapon was reported by concerned students. There were no threats made to anyone that we have been made aware of. This situation is still under investigation by Decatur Police Department but we wanted to make you aware as soon as possible. There are no additional students involved."

Principal Black said he welcomes parents to contact him with concerns.
