One man sent to hospital after late night wreck

ATHENS, Ala. – Around 11:30 Sunday night, Athens police, along with fire and rescue, responded to a wreck off Highway 31 just south of Tanner Cross Roads in Limestone County.

According to Athens police, the driver of a black SUV was traveling north on Highway 31 when he went off the road, hit a culvert and flipped several times.

Officers say the driver was ejected and seriously injured. Med flight flew the driver to Huntsville Hospital.

One lane of Highway 31 was blocked off for over an hour to investigate and clean up the wreck.

All northbound lanes are reopened this morning.
