HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) - A former Hartselle Utilities mechanic now faces charges for allegedly stealing from the company.
"There was a report filed to the Hartselle Police Department by Hartselle Utilities regarding internal theft," said Lieutenant Justin Barley with HPD.
The utility company's complaint pointed to James Arnold Taylor Still, who, last year, was recognized for 5 years of service with the company.
He is charged with theft of property. Officials say he turned himself in and bonded out.
The theft is believed to be in excess of $30,000, but police say it wasn't cash theft.
"Anytime you're dealing with a company or entity, they have maintenance shops and things like that," explained Lt. Barley. "So in this case we suspect that this employee was making purchases on credit on behalf of Hartselle Utilities and maybe using some of those items for his own personal benefit."
But the investigation is far from over.
"There is some indication that other employees may have benefited or been involved, we're still looking into those things."
