Johnson’s John Petty Named Alabama Gatorade POY

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (al.com) - J.O. Johnson's John Petty has been named the Gatorade Alabama Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-7, junior guard/forward averaged 19.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.8 steals last season as the Jaguars went 29-5 and repeated as Class 5A state champions. He shot 51.0 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from 3-point range and 78.2 percent from the free-throw line.

"I was very excited when I woke up this morning because the notification came on my phone," Petty told AL.com. "I was kind of confident about it, but I was excited when I heard the news."
