The WHNT News 19 Team of Meteorologists are keeping a close eye on winter weather moving through our area.

A winter weather advisory continues for the entire area until 6 a.m. Saturday– that means the threat is not over yet.

Road conditions have deteriorated rapidly since around 4:30 p.m. when temperatures started falling into the 20s. There will be no improvement until possibly Saturday afternoon, at the earliest. Many roads have already been closed.

Snow showers will continue into Saturday in the Tennessee Valley. Typically, snow showers do not produce a lot of accumulation, but they can whiten the ground and cause slippery road conditions at times. Be aware of your surroundings through midday Saturday; some roads may be in good shape while others are covered in ice and snow.

If some sunshine can peek through by Saturday afternoon, temperatures rise high enough to thaw some of the icy spots. Expect a high in the mid-30s; a howling north wind will make it feel like it’s in the 10s and 20s, though.
